Preamble; A beginning point for the discussion

I feel the Manifesto should contain a preamble. This would be an opportunity to set the tone of the thing, to lay some groundwork and to set out the Manifesto’s goals.

…meanwhile, we’re still trying to figure out how a “group discussion” works with web/email via the Google Group.

One thing I do not want to do, is to put ill-formed chunks of thinking here (on the blog on the web site). So this [this post itself] makes sense in the blog, but my draft-chicken-scratch musings do not. So here is this blog post, and I will next post into the group my musings.

Translations are now available

There’s now a control in the web site footer to enable flipping among languages. Initially, just French and English, but the finished Manifesto will be available in many languages.

During the early stage of this project, the machine-generated translations are good enough. But it would be great if we could have at least one person to shepherd each language. The most important thing would be to improve the translations of the about page, and the actual Manifesto when it is complete.

If you’re interested in helping with translation — really interested, not simply “it might be cool to see how it works” — please let us know.

Important Discussion Information

As previously mentioned, all discussion will occur on the Google Group Parkour Forum, with the final results being posted on the website. The topics posted are intended to spark discussion and make you think. Different people are involved in this project which means that inevitably there will be different conflicting views. So please, respect people’s opinions. Try to be open minded and understanding of other’s ideas. Some people will have strong feelings about a topic, and if any one topic insights too much conflict it will not be posted to the website.

We have moderators that will be monitoring the discussions and will work to resolve any issues that may occur and if we see fit we will close down a discussion to prevent further conflict.

If at any point you feel that a conversation is out of hand, or if you have any comments, questions, concerns, etc. please flag the conversation or message us directly.

A statement of principles and a call to action

“A statement of principles and a bold, sometimes rebellious, call to action,” is the perfect description of what I intend for this project.

Hopefully, eventually many others will contribute generally to the discussion, but I feel it’s important to start by explaining a bit about what this actually is. There are a few others helping with behind-the-scenes meta-work, but all the discussion of the contents of the Manifesto will occur in the open.

Please begin by reading the About page.
